US to Impose 50% Tariff on Steel - Made Home Appliances

The US Department of Commerce said on June 12, 2025, that common household appliances made of steel components, such as washing machines, dishwashers, and refrigerators, will soon be subject to new tariffs.

The Department of Commerce stated that a 50% tariff will be imposed on so - called "steel - derived products" starting from June 23.

As consumer goods become one of the targets, the cost for American households is likely to rise. Economists warn that the imposition of tariffs on an increasing number of products may start to drive up commodity prices more significantly later in 2025.
