Berlin, Sept. 6, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — LG Electronics took center stage at the 2025 International Funkausstellung Berlin (IFA) on Thursday, launching a new series of eco-friendly smart home appliances designed to cut energy use and support its goal of achieving carbon neutrality across all operations by 2030. The lineup, named “EcoLife AI,” includes refrigerators, washing machines, and air conditioners integrated with advanced AI and sustainable materials.

The star product of the series is the EcoLife AI Refrigerator, which uses a new “GreenCool” compressor that reduces energy consumption by 35% compared to LG’s previous models. It also features a plant-based plastic interior and a smart food management system—powered by AI—that tracks ingredient expiration dates and suggests recipes to minimize food waste. Early tests show the system can cut household food waste by up to 20%, the company said.

Meanwhile, the EcoLife AI Washing Machine introduces a “WaterCycle” technology that recycles and filters used water for secondary washes, slashing water usage by 40%. Its AI-driven “StainSense” function automatically adjusts wash cycles based on fabric type and stain intensity, further saving energy without compromising cleaning performance. LG noted that the machine is also made with 60% recycled steel and plastic, aligning with its circular economy goals.

For cooling, the EcoLife AI Air Conditioner uses a low-global-warming-potential (GWP) refrigerant and an AI “SmartCool” algorithm that learns user habits to optimize temperature settings. It can reduce energy use by 28% and comes with a built-in air purifier that removes 99.97% of airborne particles, addressing both comfort and air quality needs.

“Today’s consumers want smart appliances that make life easier and help protect the planet,” said Park Jin-hyun, head of LG’s Home Appliance & Air Solution Division. “The EcoLife AI series isn’t just about cutting emissions—it’s about redefining how home tech interacts with the environment, from production to daily use.”

To support its carbon neutrality target, LG also announced plans to expand the use of renewable energy in its appliance factories. By 2027, all of its European manufacturing facilities will run on 100% renewable electricity, with solar panels installed on factory rooftops to supplement grid power.

Industry analysts say LG’s focus on eco-friendly innovation comes as global demand for sustainable home appliances surges. A 2025 report by Euromonitor International found that 68% of European consumers are willing to pay more for appliances with proven environmental benefits, up from 52% in 2020.

The EcoLife AI lineup will hit European stores in November 2025, with prices starting at €899 for the washing machine and €1,299 for the refrigerator. LG plans to roll out the series to North America and Asia in early 2026.
